What is there to see in Stockholm?
Stockholm is a unique city, built on 14 islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea.
This spectacular naturalistic structure of the city blends with a rich history and culture, and a modern, developed city design.
Its major tourist attractions reflect this diversity, ranging from Viking ships to royal palaces to world-famous museums.
Stockholm truly offers many tourist attractions, including history, culture, and unique natural landscapes.
The good news is that almost all major tourist experiences to do in Stockholm are accessible with tourist passes, and therefore we can save quite a bit in ticket prices.
Understanding which are the most relevant tourist attractions in Stockholm will help you choose the right pass for you.
Here is a selection of the most important ones.
- The Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet) - the 17th-century war galleon, sunk at launch and recovered almost entirely intact.
- Viking Museum-an exhibit that reconstructs the life, myths, and society of the Viking era through exhibits and interactive installations.
- Skansen - the oldest open-air museum in the world, collecting historic Swedish buildings and housing an area dedicated to Nordic wildlife.
- Nobel Prize Museum (Nobel Prize Museum) - the permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of the prize, its founder Alfred Nobel and the discoveries of the winners.
- Fotografiska - an internationally renowned exhibition center dedicated to contemporary photography, with a rotating program of exhibitions.
- The Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet)-the official residence of the King of Sweden, a vast Baroque complex housing state apartments and several thematic museums.
- Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan) - the main church in the Old Town (Gamla Stan), the site of the Swedish royal family's most important ceremonies.
- Waldermarsudde - the royal picture gallery, with some of Sweden's most important paintings.
- Royal Canal Boat Tour-a circular boat tour around Djurgården Island, the heart of the Royal Urban National Park.
- Guided tour of the city's canals-an itinerary on the water that explores the canals and passages under bridges in Stockholm's Old Town.
- Grand Archipelago Tour (as far as Artipelag or Gustavsberg) -excursions of several hours that sail through the archipelago to specific cultural destinations outside the city.
- Hop-On / Hop-Off bus tours - a sightseeing bus service with a step-by-step route that connects the city's main attractions, allowing you to hop on and off freely.
- Hop-On / Hop-Off boat tours - a tourist ferry service offering flexible transportation between islands and points of interest overlooking the water.
As you can see, the main attractions and tourist experiences in Stockholm are a fascinating mix of historical sites, and activities for exploring the unique ecosystem of these lands.
With so many things to see, with average ticket prices quite expensive, choosing a tourist pass can make a big difference.
It allows us to cut down on the cost of admission to the most popular attractions and, at the same time, allows us to see so much more, building a rich, tailor-made itinerary.
Each Stockholm pass available has its own logic of operation and address: one card designed for those who want to see a lot, catching all the best of the Swedish capital, for more in-depth trips.
The other designed to get a sampling of the most popular attractions, usually suitable for short stays or for those who--by approach--want to see a few sights.
Advantages of the tourist pass: why it pays off in Stockholm
Visiting Stockholm, with its museums and boat tours (which believe me must be done, they are unique!), can be quite expensive if you buy tickets individually.
The Swedish capital is renowned for its high cost of living, and prices per attraction follow roughly the same philosophy, going to weigh significantly on the travel budget, especially when we want to see a lot of things.
The best way to be able to explore the city while saving significantly is to choose and use a Stockholm pass.
These tourist cards, in both all-inclusive and essentials formulas, provide access to museums and tours at a locked-in price, ensuring certain savings compared to buying individual tickets.
In this comprehensive guide to choosing the best pass to Stockholm, we break them down in detail to help you figure out which one is the best choice for your trip. What are the passes to Stockholm?
There are currently two types of Stockholm passes to consider, for those who want to visit the Swedish capital while saving money.
Both formulated and marketed by GoCity, one of the leading tourist card companies.
Let's quickly shed light on the names each card available..:
They both serve the same purpose: to allow you to see the Stockholm tourist attractions they include at a better price than having to buy tickets individually.
The logic of operation and orientation between these two passes changes to suit two different types of tourist approaches. Those who want to see a lot and satiate themselves with the city, while those who, for different reasons, are content to sample a few main attractions.
Our task-after we have a clear understanding of what kind of vacation in Stockholm we want to take(how much and what we want to see)-will be to identify and purchase the pass that assures us the best savings and versatility.
Do Stockholm passes include public transportation?
No, none of the Stockholm passes analyzed in this guide includes public transportation.
Passes for public transportation (subway, buses and/or trains), operated by the local transport company SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik), must be made separately, via the Travel Card (time card).
A card for public transportation that allows unlimited travel on Stockholm's transport network, for as long as you wish, ranging from 48 hours to 120 hours (2 - 5 days).
There are hop-on / hop-off bus and boat services in the tourist passes, but they are not public transportation, but tourist attractions-useful in many ways-but not capable of replacing the public transportation network.
I discuss this in detail at the end of this article, in the dedicated section, with all the necessary information.
How do passes to Stockholm work?
Let us now move on to adetailed analysis for each of the tourist cards for Stockholm, to understand how they work and when they are convenient.
They will be compared directly at the end of the guide, for immediate reading on the pros and cons of each.
If you want you can jump straight to the comparison of passes to Stockholm, or continue reading to understand them in detail, individually.
Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass
Allows access to over 70 attractions of Stockholm, museums, historic buildings, guided tours and boat excursions, all with a single payment and Without having to purchase individual tickets.
It includes practically all the TOP attractions in Stockholm we introduced earlier in this guide, including large boat tours.
Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass is available in different durations, from 1 to 5 days, and allows you to visit all included attractions during the validity period.
As per the operating philosophy of all-inclusive passes, the more you see the greater the savings.
If your goal is to explore Stockholm carefree, with a satisfying and extensive itinerary, purchasing the Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass is an excellent choice, indeed "the" choice.
Thanks to the logic of "so much is included in the pass," those who purchase this card are able to visit more attractions than originally planned in their itinerary, maximizing the travel experience and deepening their understanding of Nordic culture and Swedish landscapes.
In the next few paragraphs we will look in detail at how it works, what it includes, and whether it really pays off for your Stockholm vacation.
How does Pass All Inclusive work?
Go City's Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass is easy to use and gives you access to many attractions without the need to buy individual tickets.
The card includes a long list of museums, attractions, tours (over 70) that can be visited during the validity of the pass.
It is available for varying durations of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days to better suit the characteristics of your trip.
During the validity period, you can visit all the attractions included in the pass, only once each.
How is the pass used?
The Stockholm All Inclusive Pass is digital and is sent to you immediately after purchase via email, in the form of a QR Code, which you can:
- Use directly from your smartphone by installing the official Go City app.
- Print on paper to have it in physical format.
The pass is automatically activated upon first visit to an attraction or participation in a tour.
From that moment on, the pass is valid for the consecutive days of chosen validity.
Simply show the QR Code at the entrance to enter, or, where required, drop by the ticket office to convert the pass to a ticket (e.g., for boat tours).
🕛 Important: The first day of use always expires at midnight, no matter what time you activate it.
This means that if you use it for the first time in the afternoon, you risk losing several precious hours.
To get the most out of the Stockholm Pass, it is advisable to activate it in the morning so that you can use the entire day of validity.
If you are arriving in Stockholm in the afternoon or evening, consider postponing activation until the next morning, especially after you have arranged your luggage and hurriedly checked into your hotel.
This way, you can start the day with the pass already activated and make the most of each day included in your choice.
Benefits of the All-Inclusive Pass
This pass appeals to the traveler who wants to experience Stockholm to the fullest, without having to choose what to give up.
It is key for those with an all-you-can-visit approach: a single purchase unlocks unlimited access to a catalog of more than 70 museums, tours and experiences for the duration of your choice.
Its convenience is directly proportional to the number of visits, and although it is at its best on 4- or 5-day itineraries, it proves to be a strategic choice even for short trips (2-3 days), provided that an intensive visiting schedule is planned.
What the Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass includes
The Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass includes admissions to more than 70 attractions and tourist experiences in its catalog.
In addition to Stockholm's most important attractions and museums, several boat tours (including major ones) and guided tours are included in the pass, which are invaluable for discovering the city and the entire naturalistic ecosystem in which it is embedded.
It includes all the TOP attractions and experiences we saw at the beginning of this guide, in particular:
Among the most interesting experiences the pass covers are:
- The Vasa Museum - houses the famous galleon sunk in 1628, which is perfectly preserved.
- The Viking Museum-a landmark for Viking history and culture.
- The Nobel Museum-dedicated to Alfred Nobel and the winners of the prestigious prize.
- The Nordic Museum- delves into the culture, traditions and history of Sweden.
- The entrance to Storkyrkan, Stockholm Cathedral.
- The Waldermarsudde-the royal picture gallery, with some of Sweden's most important paintings.
- Half-day and full-day boat tours, exploring the natural archipelago of islands.
You also have the option of using both boat and bus in hop-on hop-off mode, for the duration of the pass (great thing this!).
For those unfamiliar with it, hop-on hop-off means that both boat and bus take a predefined step-by-step route, coinciding with major points of interest in the Swedish capital, and you can hop on and off where you like, as many times as you like.
Tours and Excursions Included
In addition to city attractions, the pass allows you to participate in exclusive boat tours to explore Stockholm and its archipelago, including:
✔ Fjäderholmarna Island Tour - An excursion to the first islands of the Stockholm archipelago.
✔ Archipelago boat tour to Artipelag - A half-day experience combining nature and contemporary art (with tour guide).
✔ Archipelago boat tour to Gustavsberg - Extended, full-day version, again exploring the archipelago, with tour guide.
Those by boat are best for capturing the natural wonder in which Stockholm stands.

Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass prices: how much does it cost?
The list prices of the Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass may seem high, but it is important to know that it is almost always available at a discount on the official website.
Also consider that ticket prices for individual Stockholm attractions are high on average, so the passes-although they cost money-can save quite a bit.
Below you will find the list prices, in Swedish kronor (SEK) and with the equivalent in euros, at the current exchange rate as I write this article.
The currency shown is SEK, the official currency in effect in Stockholm. I also put the conversion to Euro alongside, which is indicative.
- 1 DAY ➜ SEK 999 adults (about €89) | SEK 349 for children (about €31)
- 2 DAYS ➜ SEK 1449 adults (about €129) | SEK 499 for children (about €45)

Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass: is it really worth it?
The affordability of the Stockholm Pass depends primarily on the type of trip you have in mind and how many attractions you plan to visit.
This card includes awide selection of museums, tours and experiences, so if you plan to explore many sites of interest, the savings can be significant.
Let's do a practical calculation to concretely estimate the savings with the All-Inclusive Pass to Stockholm.
Cost Comparison: How much do you save?
Consider that the average cost of an attraction in Stockholm is about SEK 250 (about 23 euros).
Obviously this is an average, with the main attractions and boat tours considerably more expensive, and with the "smaller" attractions costing something less.
Let's consider 3-day itinerary, where we assume to do 3 attractions per day (you can do even more, but let's make a quiet and sustainable example), and use the All-Inclusive Pass in the 3-day version.
📌 3-day itinerary without pass: 3 attractions per day → 9 attractions total
Average cost without pass: 9 attractions * 250SEK = 2250 SEK (approx. 205€)
📌 3-day itinerary with 3-day All-Inclusive Pass
Cost of 3-day pass: 1799 SEK list price, 1520 SEK (about 135€) with site offer + discount code
Total savings: about 70€ per person (to be multiplied by all people in the travel group)
💡 If you also consider the use of hop-on / hop-off bus and ferry (each is one attraction) we are at 11 attractions used, increasing the savings.
And in 3 days you can visit even more, with the right planning. In this case, the savings further increase in an important way.
The logic is the same for all pass denominations.
Of course, the savings increase proportionally to the number of days it is valid, and consequently to the greater number of attractions that can be visited.
When is the Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass NOT worth it?
The Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass pretty much always pays off when you want to visit Stockholm quite thoroughly, as per a classic sightseeing trip.
When, on the other hand, your travel style wants to be more relaxed, preferring to explore the city on foot, stroll through historic neighborhoods and enjoy Stockholm without visiting museums or attractions, then this pass may not be the best choice.
The same is true for very short stays of 1 or 2 days, where time is limited and you choose to devote it more to the city than to its attractions, seeing perhaps only one or two of them.
For this kind of approach, it is perhaps more suitable to evaluate Essential Pass, which we will see in a moment, which includes visiting 3 tourist attractions/experiences.
The convenience of the Stockholm Pass should also be evaluated according to the time of year you go on vacation.
In winter, many museums close early; making good use of the admissions and activities included in the pass requires good itinerary planning.
You will also need to consider adding a public transportation pass to get around after 4 p.m., when hop-on hop-off buses stop running.
In spring and summer, opening hours are extended, tour buses run longer, and boat tours are added to the pass offerings.
So with the warm season you have a wider range of possibilities, more attractions and experiences to enrich your vacation in Stockholm.
Where to buy Stockholm Pass
The Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass is purchased online at the official Go City website.
I remind you to use the promotional code PTCODE5 when purchasing to get an additional 5% discount on the total amount.
Once your purchase is complete , you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for downloading the pass (so be careful to enter your correct email address when purchasing).
Alternatively, you can install the Go City app and follow the directions to save the card to your cell phone so you always have it with you.
Buying it in advance allows you to take advantage of any online discounts and save time upon arrival in Stockholm, avoiding lines or problems with buying locally.
In addition to the supreme benefit of major savings, there is also the convenience of making a single digital payment to buy the pass, avoiding having to change currency in the city to buy individual tickets.
Attraction reservations and skip the line
The Stockholm Pass makes it easy to enter most attractions: just show it at the entrance to gain access.
However, it is important to know that there are no real "skip the line" dedicated to pass holders.
Fortunately, there are no long waits at most museums and tourist sites.
The only exception may occur during the peak tourist season, particularly for boat tours.
Go City provides a dedicated page where you can check if new booking options are added, with instructions.
>> Book admission to attractions with the Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass.
Is it possible to book in advance?
📌 No, attractions and tours included in the Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass cannot be booked in advance.
For some activities, such as boat tours, you will need to pick up your ticket at the ticket office first, subject to availability at the time.
Beware of boat tours: what to know
Boat trips organized by Strömma are among the most popular activities for tourists and can quickly run out of available seats, especially in the summer months.
👉 High season tip: If you visit Stockholm during the busiest times of the year, it is essential to show up at the boat tour ticket office early in the morning, as soon as it opens, to secure a spot on the day's excursions.
You can then plan your itinerary without the risk of missing out on one of the coolest experiences offered by the pass.
Validity and refunds
The Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass can also be bought in advance, as you have 1 year from purchase to use it.
Perhaps by taking advantage of some good promo or sales initiative.
The pass is activated only when scanned for the first time, at one of Stockholm's attractions.
The purchased days of validity, 1, 2, 3 , 4 or 5, start from the first use. This means calendar days (not 24 hours), consecutive to each other.
Unactivated passes are fully refundable within 30 days of purchase.
To request a refund, simply contact Go City customer service online, by email or via the form at the bottom of the FAQ page.
Stockholm Pass Essentials
As its name implies, it is a decidedly "essential" pass, which allows visits to 3 attractions in Stockholm, with 3 fixed number.
The three attractions can be combined according to a few options, as we will see in this review.
The financial savings with Pass Essentials Stockholm are almost always present and guaranteed, although more limited than with the All-Inclusive Pass, given the limited number of attractions.
The limit of 3 attractions naturally orients this card to those who-for different reasons-want to visit Stockholm seeing just a few attractions, just a taste of the city and its tourist experiences.
Typical scenario for short stays, perhaps passing through on larger itineraries, or for those who prefer to approach Stockholm without focusing too much on museums and attractions.
How does Pass Essentials work?
The number of attractions included in Essentials Pass is 3, fixed, not changeable.
You will have some options to be able to customize the attractions included in the pass, choosing them in this way:
- I choose 1 attraction from a list of three TOP attractions
- I choose 2 attractions from a list of "secondary" attractions (still relevant but not absolute signposts like the above)
You do not have to choose the attractions to include right away, but you can also do so during the trip.
The important thing is that you respect the logic of how the card works.
It is activated on the first visit to one of the 3 of the chosen attractions, and from then on you have as many as 30 days to see the remaining two, depending on your choice.
Of course, even on non-consecutive days: you see them whenever you want.
What does Pass Essentials include?
Pass Essentials has a catalog of selected attractions, divided into two groups, so you can create your card configuration, according to the scheme just explained.
The first attraction-the sign attraction-can be chosen from the following options:
- Vasa Museum
- Royal Palace
- Skansen
While, the two attractions of your choice to be hooked to the previous one are selected from the following:
- Viking Museum
- Fotografiska
- Nobel Museum
- Spiritmuseum - Sweden's museum on spirits
- Haga Ocean Butterfly House
- Stockholm Tourist Bus Hop-On / Hop-Off (24 hours)
- Tourist boat cruise
- Nordiska museet
- Culinary experience: traditional Swedish snack
Since the list may change slightly over time, I encourage you to check the updated attractions list at the following link:
Stockholm Pass Essentials complete attractions listStockholm Pass Essentials Prices
List prices for the Stockholm Pass Essentials are as follows:
- Unique 3-attraction version ➜ SEK 699 Adult (about €62) | SEK 249 Child (about €22)
A child is defined as 6 to 15 years old.
Again, the price quoted is the list price, which you can practically always find discounted on the official pass website, of €10 / €5 per pass, depending on whether it is adult or child version.

When is Pass Essentials worthwhile in Stockholm?
To analyze it from an economic point of view, we need to make different considerations than in the previous pass.
Savings vary depending on the attractions you choose to include in the pass.
In the case of the adult, the Essentials Pass costs-between basic offer and discount code-about €50, to see 3 attractions.
Consequently, the average value of an attraction seen with the pass is €17.
When the ticket price of the single attraction you choose is more than €17 you have a saving, if less of course not.
Although counting on the overall savings does done on the 3 attractions: it may be that for 2 you save and for one you do not, but overall the savings is positive.
It should be avoided when the sum of the individual ticket prices of the 3 attractions is equal to or less than the price of the pass, simple.
Concrete examples of savings with Pass Essentials
Let's make a probable configuration:
- Vasa Museum (full price 230 SEK)
- Boat cruise (full price 375 SEK)
- Fotografiska (full price 230 SEK)
In this case the cost without a total pass would be 835 SEK, about €74. The card costs €50, a savings per person of €24, which over 3 attractions is definitely significant.
In addition to the savings, you always have the advantages of a one-time online purchase, without having to change currency on site.
You can redo this simple calculation according to your choice, and check the convenience.
A possible situation where Pass Essentials does not pay is this: Royal Palace (220 SEK - €20), Nobel Museum (150 SEK - €13) and Culinary Experience (82 SEK - €7 ).
Total without pass: 452 SEK - about €40, well below the cost of the pass.
Attraction prices can change--even often--over time, so if you redo these calculations be sure to use up-to-date prices.
Attractions Pass Essentials list with updated pricesWhen to choose Pass Essentials?
It is a peculiar pass, but it serenely finds its place in these scenarios:
- travel with the desire to have a very reduced itinerary, including max 3 attractions, for reasons of approach or time available.
- you have visited Stockholm before, with its TOP attractions, and therefore have a few things you miss to see, or would like to see again
- stay a few hours or days in the city, and you would not physically have time to see more than 3 attractions
- you are on a cruise to Stockholm, and in the one day of disembarkation available you make 3 attractions from those included in the pass stay inside
- you are clear in advance about which attractions to visit, and you know that you can save money by doing so
If it is your first time visiting Stockholm, and you are staying in the city at least 3 days, with a desire to see as much as possible and enjoy the city and its natural ecosystem, I would not consider Essential Pass.
In this case I would go for the All-Inclusive Pass, which definitely makes better use of seeing many more things (larger catalog), with greater convenience.
Where to buy it
Pass Essentials is purchased online, conveniently before you leave.
Once purchased, the pass will arrive to you almost immediately via e-mail (in digital format - QR Code), and you can use the official GoCity app to load your Essentials Card and have it available at all times.
The app also provides all the useful information you need to know about each attraction and tour, hours, meeting points, addresses, etc.
Booking attractions Stockholm Pass Essentials
As with the All-Inclusive Pass (same Go CIty family) at the moment virtually none of Stockholm's attractions turn out to be bookable in advance.
In my opinion this is not a big problem, as there are hardly crowds that make reservations essential.
You might find a spike in attendance on the boat tours during the summer season, but with a minimum of organization you will be able to participate without a problem (perhaps avoid going at the last minute).
Go City has provided a special page (very neat) where you can check if new booking options are added, with instructions.
>> Book admission to attractions with the Stockholm Essentials Pass
Validity and refunds
Pass Essentials is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. So once you buy it, you can activate it within one year.
From when you activate it (with your first visit to one of the included attractions) you have 30 days to complete your other visits.
It is refundable only if not activated, within 30 days of purchase.

Which pass to choose to visit Stockholm?
Both of the reviewed passes are useful in those cases of travel where they fit best.
The fairest way to choose a pass is to first figure out the type of vacation you have (days, things you want to do and see), and define an outline itinerary, perhaps not in great detail but letting you know how many things fit in, and roughly which ones.
Doing so will make it easier to figure out which pass best fits your trip to Stockholm, capable of providing you with the greatest savings and travel comfort.
- medium-long stay (3-5 days) want to see lots of things about Stockholm? -> Stockholm All-Inclusive Pass
- "hit-and-run" passage (1-2 days) and desire to have just an essay of Stockholm, through 3 attractions -> Stockholm Pass Essentials.
This is a summary reading to summarize what we have seen on the individual card reviews for Stockholm, indicative of choosing the best pass according to your type of vacation.
To understand the details, I encourage you to read this guide well, understanding the mechanics of each individual card.
Whichever pass you choose, the most important thing is to enjoy your Stockholm travel experience to the fullest.
With the information in this guide, you have everything you need to do so while saving money and without worries.
Children's pass: does it pay off?
Yes absolutely, as The city's paid attractions are expensive even for children, albeit at a reduced ticket price compared to the adult. Each pass sets children's ages according to the attractions it contains in the catalog to maintain affordability.
Stockholm card and transportation
The Stockholm Pass does not include public transportation.
It does, however, offer some ways to conveniently move between major tourist attractions
You can take advantage of hop-on hop-off tour buses and ferries, again in hop-on hop-off mode with unlimited access for the duration of the pass.
With these services you can get to Stockholm's main tourist spots, with the ability to hop on and off as you please.
In addition, during the ride you have audio commentary explaining what you are admiring on board or what awaits you once you get off at the next stop.
The buses are those of City Sightseeing, green and red in color. There are also other tourist buses, also red, from the company "Stockholm RED Buses," but these are not included in the pass.
Pictured are the hop-on hop-off buses included in the Stockholm Pass
Hop-on hop-off buses are a good alternative for getting around Stockholm, but they do not reach all parts of the city.
In particular, they usually do not efficiently cover travel to and from your hotel unless you are staying downtown near one of the bus or ferry stops.
They also run from about 10 a.m. and in winter stop running in the late afternoon.
Therefore, if you want more freedom in travel when the tour buses are not running and for other needs, you must rely on the city's efficient public transportation network.
Stockholm Travel Card
A few single tickets may suffice, but for frequent use of city buses, subways or streetcars, purchase the Stockholm Travel Card.
This is Stockholm's card dedicated exclusively to public transportation.
A pass that allows unlimited travel on subways, buses, trains and some ferries for 24 hours, 72 hours, 7 days or more.
You can find more information and all prices directly on the official Stockholm City SL transport website.

Plus: Difference Stockholm Pass by Strömma and Go City
Looking for information online about tourist passes for Stockholm, you may come across information regarding a Stockholm Pass, offered by the company Strömma. Although the name is virtually identical to the Go City pass, it is a product that no longer exists.
The pass has in fact been acquired by Go City, which has reformulated its offerings, maintaining very similar operation and keeping the name Stockholm Pass.
The main change from the previous version concerns public transportation: while the old Stockholm Pass included access to subway, streetcar, and regular buses, the new Stockholm Pass from Go City no longer includes this service.
However, you can still get around comfortably with the hop-on hop-off tourist bus, included in the pass, which provides easy access to the city's main attractions.
